Yes I do. I also wish they would test them for alcohol. My daughters had a high school Spanish teacher who drank all the time.

Teachers get drug tested? They need to get their heads tested. Who in their right mind would put up with all the abuse teachers have to take every day?
I do think that there should be routine drug tests for all students, and, when a child tests positive, both parents should be tested immediately.
Of course you are correct in saying that you wouldn't want someone coming down from a high in you child's classroom. Neither do teachers, yet every day they have to try to teach students who are not only coming down from a high, but are also getting high during breaks from class.
Teachers are already heavily screened before getting a teaching job. Parents too, should be screened before having children. (That would solve a lot of problems before they start!) Children should be screened before starting school and then on an ongoing basis so that we can be sure they are able to benefit from the expenditure of tax-payers money on their education.
So, how does all of that sound? Like an invasion of privacy? I'm sure you won't mind. Right? Afterall, what's good for some people, is surely good for all.
Let's address the real problem in our schools: Inferior superintendents, principals, and other administrators who refuse to accept responsibility for student discipline, preferring to add that to the burdens teachers already have in the classroom due to overcrowding, lack of supplies, and an influx of very disturbed students who should be in special classes. Let's do something that supports teachers--now isn't that a radical thought--instead of beating them down. Above all, let's put responsibility for children's behavior where it belongs--on the parents.

I teach high school and when I was hired I had 24 hours to take a drug test. I did not mind because I had nothing to worry about. It did make me feel a little weird though.
The truth is, teachers are human and do make mistakes. There is nothing wrong with requiring drug tests. It is required to work at many places anymore.
I think that drinking can also be a problem. It was not at my school, but at a local school a teacher was drinking at a basketball game. She kept the alcohol in her room and kept going to her room to have some drinks. When it was time to leave she backed her car into the gymnasium. No one was hurt, but she did put a hole in the wall.
I think that there is nothing wrong with testing teachers. In fact, in some cases it is necessary.

No. Most tests will only show Marajuana and opiates, and really, someone who has to put up with hoardes of kids all day, I can't blame them for having a spliff now & then. Actually, two of the BEST teachers I ever had smoked pot and occasionally did other drugs.
The stuff we DO need to watch out for(Meth, PCP, Steroids) won't show up on a drug test unless they did it within three days of the test if at all.
Heavy perscriptions(psychotropics or demerol) are legal and I've seen those interfere with a teacher's ability to function-AND MY GRADES-more than anything you'd get on the street.
They don't pay teachers enough for that kind of invasion of privacy, they already do thorough background checks. We also shouldn't test for the same reason Microsoft doesn't test: They'd lose half their best people.

Most definitely. And I was a head start teacher. I really love those kids. I would have gladly been tested, as often as daily, if necessary, to ensure their safety. Nothing makes me want to really pound someone more than hurting kids. This is why I should never work in law enforcement.

I think that teachers should be observed regularly and their behaviour monitored. Drug testing won't address the bigger problems. Lack of enthusiasm, outdated knowledge and lack of current qualifications don't show up on drug tests.
Believe me, the number of bad teachers on drugs is miniscule compared to the number of bad teachers not on drugs!

I must admit reading your question, set my mind thinking, I always assume
teachers are, 'squeaky clean', if however, I thought a teacher was on any form
of substance in charge of a class, I will definitely be making their superiors
fully aware, and if no course of action was taken, then I will take the matter
further, I hope your question was a hypothetical one.
