9 - (1/4)j = 5

get rid of the denominator first, so multiply everything by 4:

36 - 1j = 20

keep the j on one side, #'s on the other:

36 -20 = j

16 = j

j = 16!

9-j/4=5

9-5=j/4

4=j/4

j=16

4 = (1/4)xj (transferring 5 to LHS and -(1/4)xj to RHS)
j= 16
RHS -right hand side
LHS - Left hand side
