I was asked to star in a student film. The script is good. I'd love to play the part. However, there is one scene I don't like.

The scene will involve having my hands tied behind my back and tape across my mouth. I asked if the scene could be changed, or removed, but it's part of the plot. The director doesn't want to change it.

It's not being tied that bothers me. It's the fact that it will be on film and other college kids will see it.

Am I thinking too much of one scene?

You may be thinking about it too much - other college kids seeing the film will recognize that it's a student film, and not to be taken too seriously in the grand scheme of things - if you like the rest of the script, do it - you're way ahead if you only have one scene to object to - and who knows, when it's done the director might decide that the scene as shot doesn't work, thus leaving you an opportunity to suggest something else.

Oh I have, in high school and College. Had a great time, nothing is ever 100% to anyones taste (unless you wrote it of course).

Freedom of speech is a double edge sword, and a hilt, and a grippy thing.

It's always great to look back on, if your a good from the moon in "Hercules vs the six million dollar man", or the Rabbi in "God in a Can" (those are the first and last film I've been in LOL

If you feel uncomfortable about it do not do it. If you feel that somehow this is not good for others to see then trust your instincts. Your instincts will not stray you wrong. you can do something else you feel positive about.

Always follow your instincts. If you don't feel right about it, don't do it.
