I am 32 and thinking about going back to school for art history (I would like to work within a museum environment). I'm afraid, though, that I'm a little too old for the years of schooling plus internships, plus politics of the art world. Any thoughts?

If you've already done an undergraduate degree, you may want to consider doing a masters degree in museum studies, rather than starting with another undergraduate degree. You can switch fields. You just need to have some background in the field that you want to enter. Usually they require 24 semester hours. Museum studies is generally interdisciplinary. You take most of your classes in museum studies but also some in the field that you want to concentrate in. An internship is usually one class (3 semester hours, in my case) during your program.

I would spend some time volunteering in a museum and find out whether you like it. Also, talk to people with various jobs in the field and see what their day is like. If you can manage to free up a weekday from your current job to volunteer, you will meet people with a wider variety of jobs than those you'd meet on the weekends. Every job comes with politics, so the question is whether its politics that you can deal with. The best job websites, that I know of, for art museum jobs are www.aam-us.org and www.museumjobs.com.

I went to grad school at 43, switching fields from accounting to history/historic preservation. I had multiple classmates who were "non-traditional" students. I'd bet that you wouldn't be the oldest person in school. Good Luck!

Hi there! You are never too old for school. I went back at 29 for a Bachelor of Social Work degree and got my Master's of Social work 2 years later. I am going back again for Psychotherapy traninig and I'm 35.

I hope that you will be accepted for Art History and will be able to find employment in your field aftewards.

P.S. A little advice. If you can get into a placement/co-op program, you will have a better change at getting a job in the future. Good luck.

I started college for elem. ed at 30. I had 3 kids and recently divorced and I made it. I graduated in 2 1/2 yrs also.I took extra classes and did summer school to get it done! Thank goodness I had good sitters for my younger kids and my mom to fill in the gaps with them. I was still involved with their school and other activities but I concentrated on getting the ed.so I could get to work. Best wishes and yes you can do it! My friend saw that I did it and she went back after I finished and a few yrs older. She had been a hair stylist and now she is a top reading teacher specialist! She can teach anywhere. Your maturity helps more than you could ever figure it would! Go for it!

I dont think you're too old for it. I'm not an expert in the fileds that you're talking about, but I don't think you need to worry about how old you are...

It'd be a little longer for you to finish schooling, but there are so many older people that go to school these days too you know... In my Gender and Race class, there are 2 older man and woman that are still going to school to become teachers...

Good luck!

Don't worry. I am 58 and recently completed my doctorate. Albeit thru correspondence. You are never too old to complete your education. The problem might be that there is an age limit for certain jobs.

the first element to comprehend is she would nicely be doing this to purpose to get her mom in touch. So i'd advise that the subsequent time it takes position, you've her talk with her mom or call her to enable her understand. once you get a danger, talk with the mother. She would have innovations on what to do. If no longer...the subsequent time it takes position, supply her homework besides! Ask if she ought to rearrange to deliver abode the homework without caution, each Friday, so that you'll get a head start up on it. If no longer, then ask her to be particular that any missed homework does get abode (she ought to visual exhibit unit her load her backpack if conceivable) and performance the youngster do all of it, to boot to inspite of else has been assigned, yet right here Monday. yet you somewhat favor to get the mother on board (and the daddy if she spends weekends with him).
