I saw a horse truck today which had tiny windows at the top, presumably for ventilation purposes and I wondered why they don't let the horses have windows to look out of.

I suppose not wanting to startle the horses is the obvious answer but it's not as if they are not used to traveling fast! I think it would be quite nice to see their little faces looking out of the window.

What do you think?

Many horse trailers do have windows -- even most of them do, I'd say. Some problems with windows include, yes, horses can startle at things whizzing by, but also (1) they can get hooves caught in windows (they're very good at getting themselves in messes) and (2) a horse who suddenly decides to try to leave a trailer might try to get out a window (despite that it's clearly not large enough.)

I've seen plenty of horse transporters with windows right at eye level. So maybe you're only seeing one particular type.

Yes, it is because it will scare them too much. They are less frightened if they cannot see, which is why in races they wear blinders. Horses can be easily startled, and can harm themselves or others. Wonderful creatures though.

my brother has 3 horses, each one weighs around half a ton...(plus) and even in a 7.5 tonne truck, they would kick the side out in seconds. and its not a good idea to have all that weight moving around...so the horses go in and they close teh doors.

its stops them getting spooked..and injuring themselves..have you any idea how much the horsey vet charges?
