I know someone who has had a drug addiction problem (prescriptions). She seems to be doing better, but I've been fooled before. How do I know for sure that she means it this time? Are there any "trick questions" or sure signs to tell that she's really off the drugs? I want to believe in her.

IN most cases, only time will tell. If she is still using it will definitely come to surface real soon. It is hard to ever really trust what an addict tells you. It is more to your advantage not to trust them. You can tell when someone is making excuses for their behavior or about the things that is going on around them. Give her time...she will tell off on herself, good or bad. Best wishes with that. It is hard putting up with an addict. I did it for years.

Whelp, if its a friend.. then you'd know what they were like when they were on the drugs.. so you'd know what to look for in that regard..

Just keep in mind.. an addict is ALWAYS in recovery.. you don't just get all better one day.. it's a fight every single day of your life.. And generally addicts have addictive personalities, and will try to fill the void they left in their life with something else...

Be a good friend, don't try to do trick questions and play games.. They need a support person..and a person who realizes that even with the best intentions, getting over an addictive substance is rough.. and has a high probability of a relapse a time or two before success.. Quitting isn't hard..it's staying quit that is the problem...

Good luck to your friend!

Tough question!! I guess read up on prescription drug additions and know the signs to look for. Mostly, be a good friend! She needs all the support she can get.

I'm not going to in the whole thing about how to tell if some one is high or not but remember, an addict will always be in recovery. There really is no such thing as an ex-addict, only "clean" ones. Your best bet, support her, show her that you really do care.

There's a saying, "You know how u know an addict is lieing?? Their lips are moving." So you never know. Ask her what NA meetings she is attending and where they're at..if she has a sponsor..Although many people do the program to satisfy others but use the whole time..so it's tough to say if they're telling the truth.
