There are a large number of paranoia emails warning about this virus and that virus. The vast number are hoaxes. You can usually check to see if an email is a hoax or not by going onto Yahoo! and typing 'hoax' and a few words from the email.

Either that or check Snopes (link below).

Generally speaking the vast majority of download sites will check all of their files before posting them. It is VERY unlikely that download sites will have their files infected with a virus as their files should be read-only (you can download them but you can't alter them) to the outside world.

Most gunuine download sites have very good protection against infection. As recommended by posts u need to protect yourself against infection. All AV providers are good although Norton is very system intesive, at the mo i would avoid it. AVG offer a very good freebie. WWW.MAJORGEEKS.COM. Microsofts firewall is sufficient if you run XP SP2. Zone Alarm provide a good one if you prefer an alternative.
