there are as many reasons for this as there are people who believe. Some feel they have a gap in their lives and a spiritual belief fills that. Others believe as a kind of insurance policy, just in case there is a judgement day and an after life. Others believe that the way of life promoted by the Bible, is a very good way to live - helping others, being honest, caring for each other etc. Some find it comforting to feel that a greater being is in charge of their lives. As I said, there are lots more reasons, but it would take a very long time to think of them all.

Well...I guess some people like the thought of having something more powerful than them which they know will protect them throughout life and afterwards. Some people have been brought up strictly religious and therefore have known no different. You also get those who have experience events which they belive to be miracles and which could've only be caused by something more powerful than them- which they believe to be God. Personally I am agnostic and believe in something greater than myself, as how would we be here?, although I'm not sure entirely what this is.

people believe in God because he once existed physically and the bible tells us so. He spiritually still does exist within all of us.
As a child if you grew up going to church then that could be another reason why you believe in God.

Because they were born into a family that believed in God & they were educated to believe in God. If they still believe in God as adults it is probably through conviction - they believe what they grew up with.

Two reasons.
There is a God-shaped void built into everyone that nothing else can fill.
They search for meaning in everything else and discover, like King Solomon that there is no meaning to life without God. Nothing satisfies and I do mean NOTHING!

I suppose the same reason anyone believes in anything. Its a kind of security knowing that there is something or someone who can answer our prayers and watch over us.

People need something to unify them.. give them hope..
What better way then a mythical character that promises them if they behave they will have a great reward?
It's like lying to children about santa claus.. "You better be good or Santa's not coming"
"You better be good or Jesus isn't coming, and you're going to go to hell with the devil and not Heaven with God"

Because religion is drilled into us from when we are children, going back thousands of years, to pre-christianity. Humans need something to believe in and someone to answer to.
