I do know that if there is any family history of vascular disease that it is not recommended to use birth control. Birth control can cause blood clots that is the reason why my daughters and I can not use the pill or any form of birth control.
The doctor is the best person to ask this question. He or she will know your medical history and will know what is best for you. Birth control is not a 100% guarantee that it will keep you from getting pregnant and it will not protect you from getting sexual transmitted diseases. Using a condom is just as important when using birth control.

Personally I would recommend the coil instead of the pill.
But If you opt for the contraceptive pill...
1
ALWAYS take your pill at the same time every day. You will get to know the best time that suits you.
2
If you are ill and throw up, there is a chance your pill has not been absorbed, so watch out! I always kept a spare pack of pills in case I threw up, I took one extra in this case.
3
Also, with a spare pack, it is handy to have with you in case you have to stay overnight or forget your normal pack sometime.
4
The Pill does not protect against disease, so use a condom if you dont have a permanent partner....
Good Luck.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TAKE DEPO. I gained 42 lbs in six months on depo...i went from a size 10 to a size 22. I absoultely do not recommend it...you should go to the ob/gyn and discuss your options...not here.

Do you have any sisters or other relatives that have already had experience taking birth control? If you do, I strongly recomend you ask them, because they'll be able to tell you best how the pill interacts with your genetics.
Every woman seems to react differently. Some gain weight, some loose weight, some get depressed, some feel happier. (My sisters got depressed, and boy do I wish I had asked them before I took them - yep I got depressed too).
Best wishes

You should know the risks that come with any birth control, and make yourself aware of any side effects. Also research different types of birth control to find one that best suits you.
Good luck

that it takes a while before it goes into effect , so don't just pop the pill & think you won't get pregnat.
Certain pills have different side effects on people , ask the obgyn about them. I was on Loestrin & it worked great for me.

Read the label about all the risks involved such as blood clots, and etc. Talk to your doctor about it and make sure he has all your family history.
