I live in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. I've been through 1000's of seismic events I didn't notice; dozens of small tremors, and two earthquakes that scared the bejesus out of me.

The first one was in 1971. I was 15. I think it was called the Sylmar quake. 6.4 on the Richter about 10 miles away. It happened about dawn. It was very scary. What was more frightening though were the dozens of aftershocks that occurred for weeks, even months. Every time a truck drove by I was afraid it was another quake.

The last big earthquake I was in was in 1994. The Northridge Quake about 6.7 on the scale 5 miles away. It knocked the chimney off my roof and threw everything from shelves to the floor. I ran around yelling, "Don't panic.. Don't panic!" It's a terrifying experience but after awhile.. you realize.. you're okay.

I was in the earthquake in 1989 ( San Fransico, CA). i was only 6 years old then but i remember everything crashing. i lived at least 45 minutes away from SF and it was still huge. My mom was in traffic when it happened and she was petrified, becuase the ground cracked and shook in a lot of random areas. there was an after shock a couple hours later, but it was expected and a lot less powerful. the first time gives you experience. i also had a telephone pole outside of my house that was totally fallen over. Its a scary thing, but if u can stand in a cleared space or in a doorway you should be good.

I live in California and I've been through quite a few. Most of them aren't anything to worry about. Sometimes I don't even bother getting off the phone if I'm work. The worst one I've experienced was the Loma Prieta earthquake in '89.

I was sitting down in my room watching tv when next thing you know i hear a loud rumble, and the room vibrates .. well it wasnt necessary vibrating, but it was rocking back and fourth. I remember screaming at the top of my lungs MOM!! TURN OFF THE WASHER AND DRYER!! Of course i was 7 , so i didnt know what an earthquake was until my mom came running in my room telling me we had to get out of the house.. Yes yes...Im so ashamed.

I live in Belgium where there rarely are any earthquakes.
However we did have one in the spring of 1992. I just remember getting up early because my bed was trembling without any obvious cause...
People living in flats from the 10th floor onwards found paintings hanging at strange places and had broken cups and plates in there cupboards...
Nothing major, but quite strange for our region of the world!

All the time. They are kind of like being on the ocean. The power of nature is exciting. You wonder if maybe it was centered half way around the world and maybe the end is near but that passes.

yeah, three, well, you start feeling dizzy and you think it's only u, until you realize that other people are feeling the same , or you see things moving, and i handled it pretty good, the truth is that there's nothing to be scared about, today's buildings are designed to stand earthquakes

I have only experienced tremours, but still can be scary, just the rumbling and feeling the ground tremour. The biggest I felt was measured at 4.3 so not that bad.
