I want to know if anyone has succeeded in using sex to induce labor. I know that it is caused by the male sperm. But has anyone actually accomplished this??

I talked to the dr. about this as well. The sperm helps your cervix to soften and rippen and when you have an orgasm it helps you start contracting. I was told to go ahead and start because when I was last check I was closed, high, and thick so that way I can help start softening it and getting myself ready. So I guess we will see if it works.

between sex and a bumpy car ride, I had both my girls that way. I think it helps, but its not an imediate thing, the sperm just "irritates" (in my words) the cirvix and can cause it to dialate or thin.

Sex to Induce Labor

Semen contains prostaglandins. Prostaglandins cause the cervix to "ripen", or soften and prepare to open. While it is debatable whether there are enough prostaglandins in semen to have any real effect, it is not a terrible way to keep hope alive and while away the last weeks of your pregnancy. Another great side effect is the fact that orgasms produce oxytocin, the hormone that causes contractions. So, between the two, there is a pretty good case for the cure for pregnancy.

here is the site I got this from: there are also other mothods.

it is not CAUSED. Labour is normally induced when the baby is ready. SOME gynaecologists believe that exposure of the cervix to sperm MAY help induce labour, when the baby is ready anyway.

Obviously no conclusive studies could ever be undertaken - you'd need two clones of the same woman, same pregnancy, etc. One would have intercourse, the other not, and you'd measure any timing differences.

good luck

Yes. My Mother-in-Law, who is a retired mid-wife, suggested ths for me and my wife. The make up of the sperm helps with the breakdown of the mucus plug which helps induce labor. We tried it and two days later we had a baby girl.

I think it's more the pressure placed on certain inside parts of the womans body that sparks the labor and not the sperm

It's not just the sperm, it is mainly caused because your uterus contracts while having intercourse and it can begin the contractions. My friend did, she was afraid of being induced, and her and her husband had sex like 3 times one night and there she went.

I had several people tell me this and my husband and I have had sex at least 5 days out of the week for the past 3 weeks...i have also tried raspberry leaf tea, castor oil, walking (even up and down hills), rocking, cleaning the house, etc....I am now 40w 4d and still pregnant...i have come to the conclusion that he will come when he is ready...or at least by my induction day :)

My doctor reccomended this to me because I was scheduled for an induction anyways. It helped me get to 3 cm of dialation. My friend used sex to induce labor with her second and it broke her water.

It is not caused by the male sperm. Orgasm causes the uterus to contract, which can lead to labor. So, it can't be just sex, has to be GOOD sex...lol

My husband and I had sex and less than 2 hours later my water broke and labor started. It certainly could have been a coincidence but I consider it a siccess! (I was full term)
