Todd Jones said yesterday, "We want to send a message that we're not happy just going to the playoffs."

Yet, the Tigers popped 220 bottles of champagne yesterday, just for clinching a postseason berth. They didn't even clinch the division, just a playoff spot.

Does this not seem ridiculous? Are they not sending exactly the opposite message than what Jones said? Will their ********* prove costly in October?

Yes, i do think so. They are going into the playoffs with a big head. Most teams that have a big head going into the playoffs, usually get swept in the division series. Detroit needs to calm down and take it 1 game at a time. Now, as for popping 220 bottles of champagne corks, I think i would've waited until i won the division.

Get real. The Tigers are far from cocky. There isn't a bunch of players who are more down to earth then they all.

The message he was sending to us fans!

And 220 bottles of bubbly is well deserved considering the fact they lost 119 games only 3 years ago, and havent seen a playoff berth in 19 years.

If you had seen the clubhouse celebration you would have seen Todd Jones was in tears, as was Jim Leyland & Mike Ilitch.

Once again they are NOT cocky (maybe some of us fans are) and no, it will not cost them in October.

Here is the entire quote taken from The Tigers website.

"We want to send the message that we're not just happy to go to the playoffs," closer Todd Jones said after Sunday's 11-4 win over the Royals at Kauffman Stadium that clinched a postseason berth for the Tigers. "We want to let the city of Detroit know that we're trying to win our division. That celebration will be much bigger."

So There!

Detoit hasn't exactly been playing good baseball the last month. You have to remember also this is a team that hasn't made the playoffs in over a decade. Maybe this will remove some of the pressure they have been under so they can finish off the division. If the Tigers rest now and give the division to Minnesota, thier playoff appearance will end against New York. It is really step one of a two step process for them and I see nothing wrong with celebrating this first achievement.

Absolutely not!

The Tigers haven't made the playoffs since 1987. Baseball is huge here in Detroit and we finally want to prove to the baseball world that we are a force to be reckoned with.

I could see it being cocky if we were to say something like, "We're the best team in baseball, no one can beat us." This Tiger team is very unselfish.

Too Cocky.....I did'nt think they were cocky enough. But yes they did pop a million bottles but i bet the Brewers, Rockies, Royals, and Devils would probably do the same damn thing. The Tigers are gonna be a forced to be reckoned with in October watch out. GO TIGERS.

What a stupid question, of course not! They've clinched a playoff berth for the first time since 1987. Give 'em a break.

No, of course not. They understand this is only the first step toward the same goal everyone else is after. They've had years of disappointment. They are just enjoying the moment like every other team that makes the playoffs. I think it's great for baseball.

Although the Tigers have made the postseason (and their first postseason run in 19 years), I do not see the Tigers making it to the ALCS. If the Tigers do make it to the World Series, I can only see them winning if they are not facing off with the New York Mets.
