I am a 19 year old white male in Plant City Florida.
I have NEVER been arrested, have no criminal background, have a completely spotless driving record, i have never been a drinker, NEVER used ANY kind of drugs, and am completely against smoking.
I was on the fast track to graduating my senior year when some family issues arose, and my family split.
I know it isnt an excuse, but i dropped out right past second semester(Please dont harp on that please, i know now how ignorant it was.)
My life is back on track and i have settled with a GED.
With my clean background, is it possible to be accepted into the police academy?( i believe it is)
If so, what is the probability of me becoming a law enforcement officer?
It is what i have wanted to do since i was a little boy, and i have a hard time seeing myself doing anything else.
Bottom lone; can i be a police officer?

There are TONS of people who are LEO's that have their GED. You can do it. Especially if it is your dream, do it!

My best friend dropped out of school and got his GED and is now a Toledo Police Officer.

View the applications, most ask "Do you have your High School Diploma or GED?" Check YES and you are on your way!

Don't let the fact that you have a GED get you down or deter you. You will be fine.

Good Luck on your training!

First place, WE aren't the ones to ask. Only those that do the placement can answer that.

I mean, you put in a lot of effort to compose this question, giving several lines of detail about what you HAVEN'T done in your life, as well as several more lines about why you hadn't finished your high school and how you got your GED, and how you believe you will be accepted into the acadamy and on, and on, and ON.

In the time it took for you to do this, you could have initated a phone call or two and contacted a person who could actually answer your question, about your SPECIFIC situation.

What gives with that? Why haven't you done this? Don't wait at your monitor for the answers you get, here. NONE of this means as much as what you hear from the admissions people at the acadamy!

I know that in my community, I'd like peace officers that have a little more self confidence than I see, here. I'd want to trust my life to a person who didn't have to look over his shoulder for approval before taking action.

Take a deep breath and DO WHAT YOU KNOW YOU HAVE TO! Make the call and get started.

You definitely have a good chance at becoming a LEO, however if you want to have a better chance start taking classes that are geared toward Law Enforcement or join the National Guard or Reserves that always looks great on a resume and they will pay for your college and give you a little extra money per month. Besides its only one weekend a month. There are other things that you can do as well to make you a better candidate just take the initiative and that looks good as well.

Yes you have a very good chance but I would also suggest taking some college courses geared towards it. You might also want to start as a Corrections Officer or go in to the Army or Navy and from there you will absolutley be first choice as a police officer.

YES! I know police officers with your background. You may want to take some courses at a junior college before applying to the academy. Talk to the counselor at your local community college.

Yes but you may need more than your GED.
Check with your local or State Police department to see what additional qualifications you need to keep your dream going.
