It angered me at first. Then I thought, how I used to report people when I was a newbie. BTW, I stopped reporting people because I realized people have the freedom of speech. Plus, I actually get laughs out of the ridiculous questions and answers. They provide an outlet for my sarcasim.

The most ironic thing is that the idiot who reported me as been following my trail and got mad because he didn't like my questions and answers. On top of that he chose my answer as a best answer one time.

It felt good and I was ecstatic. I actually had a tingling sensation and my hair stood out on end as I began to salivate. My eyes were wide open and my pupils were dilated and my ears turned red and started to ring. After some deep breathing techniques I began to calm down but it was so exhilarating I almost wanted it to happen again.

I've never gotten a violation email, so can't answer your top question, but did want to respond. (Wonder if someone will report me, just cause I said that?)

Anyway, when a report is submitted, someone on the yahoo team gets an email, and that person looks into it. That way, people can't just ding people for no good reason, so the report was considered abuse, not just by the reporter, but also by a staffer. (How do you know who it was? I thought the "abuser" didn't see who reported them.)

About your remark about no longer reporting abuse because "people have free speech" -- well, yes and no. This service exists for certain purposes, including supplying information to people who need it. Entertainment is another purpose, as you can see by some of the "just for fun" categories. I think "just for fun" q's and a's should all go there, not in the serious categories.

The Abuse Reporting system is there because there are a lot of people who would fill the site with sludge, such as hate speech, gibberish, and stuff that really has no point. If the site gets too clogged with sludge, people who want to use it for its intended purposes won't come here, as all they'll see is sludge.

By removing some of the sludge, and banning egregious perpetrators, the site has a higher Legit Stuff to Sludge ratio, and will continue to be useful.

Since this is a service provided by yahoo, and everyone on it "agreed" to its Terms of Use and "agreed" to abide by the guidelines (read these, if you haven't already), it's perfectly legitimate for yahoo to control the content of its own site. (The US government is prohibited from censoring free speech, commercial entities are not, so "people can say whatever they want" doesn't apply here.)

I've been reported 3 times,i only joined on Saturday.I am from the
UK so posting here and reading the postings were fun.But what i've noticed is that American(cause this is a prodominent US site) have a totally different sense of humour from us and are easily offend.I've never came on here to personally attack anyone but to have a laugh and a joke, some of my postings have been near the knuckle but if thats not your type of thing ignore the posting and move on to another cause if its not funny to you may be funny to someone else. Also the replies i get are quite funny because they are that serious in replying that they don't really notice that the posting are that far fetched they cannae be true....Lets have fun life to short to be dour.........

I'm a retired teacher and I spent my time in homework help. A child emailed me and told me that 2 of my answers were incorrect and she was unhappy. My answers were correct but not what her book wanted. The children often don't give enough information to get help and I always go to the ones that have zero replies. So at first I was hurt and then I realized I shouldn't help if I'm giving out incorrect answers so I don't go there anymore.
In fact I cut my time here way down.
And I rarely say anything rude in rooms since I learned that if u google your I.D. every answer you have ever given is there. Your ebay is there. Lots of stuff is there. Ergo: I now watch what I say.

I just laughed and still laugh today when people report me. It's funny that people think by reporting someone else they have done their good deed for the day. Most people will just create a new account if their current one gets suspended.

This is Y! Answers, just have fun.

You should report inappropriate, lewd remarks and questions. I also think you should report harrassment. There are kids that use Yahoo Answers and we have a responsibilty to keep it as clean as possible. Yahoo Answers must have this report service because they feel it is necessary. Don't let a few bad apples spoil this service for everyone else.

i was rather bemused, as i actually thought it was quite a sensible answer, given the 'question' that was asked, which was moronic babble.

i've had some idiot follow my trail too, sad that these people have nothing better to do. i often give best answer to the funniest answer, even if its disrespectful.

I had it coming. I was being very snarky. It was worth it. The guy was very full of himself and had no sense of humor, poor dear. Frankly, I'd rather read sarcastic responses than boring ones.
