He was certainly a great batsman and had an amazing ability to concentrate through a game. He wasn't always the best team player though - a bit selfish, he would run his partner out rather than give his wicket away.
His personal life is not admirable, but has nothing to do with his sporting ability.

He was a great player in his own right. But that does not necessarily make him the greatest. Now with the ever improving vaughan , and Andy flintoff in the fray, the choice is difficult to make.
