"Fashion" IS rubbish, darling. A decent price is hard to come by. A decent cut is nearly impossible. One wants to find something that is fairly priced and affordable, and wants to find something which is somewhere modestly and pleasantly between a burlap sack and a micro-kini. One should also remember that what is trendy does not always protect from the elements. Don't be "fashionable" at the expense of common sense and personal comfort.

What are the current trends? Tacky overexposure. Top cleavage, bottom cleavage, they're simply gross. Go for something classic. It won't go out of style. Don't follow the trends, they'll only waste your money and tell you to buy something different in the next wave of debris that hits the runways.

The fashion world is after your money, and if you follow them, they'll continue to sport "the latest" fads and tell you you're inadequate until you are bankrupt. Be aware as well, that fashion comes and goes in cycles. Plaids, paisleys, stripes, solids, outrageous colors- pastels, neons, blah, blah. The lists go on and on.

You are beautiful when you realize your beauty comes from within, and you let it shine without exposing yourself. Find your natural colors and stick with them. They come in seasons. Fall and spring, bright and neat and natural, Winter and summer, more subdued but still absolutely lovely. Nothing natural is gaudy. Balance is important: If you're a "Fall," you don't want to look like a pumpkin; If you're a "Winter," you don't want to look dead.

If you have the time and inclination, you might try buying nice fabric and creating your own clothes. There are still dress making forms, and patterns available with classic, neat lines. Classic is always classy.

I'm skinny with long legs and no "padding" and I am making out like a bandit this year. Opaque leggings with short skirts, gauchos with tall boots, belted jackets, etc. I love the baggy camos/hightop tennies/retro logo t-shirt/short hoodie look. For once my bony, chestless figure is "in", at least with the "geek chic" look. LOL I have never had such a good year in finding clothes that actually fit.

But I do agree that it will be nice when "hooker chic" fades into the background again. Really, stuff cut down to the navel and up to the rear, skin tight and loaded with lingerie lace and bold animal prints does nothing for anyone, not to mention shoes that look made for streetwalking. they're not only cheap-looking, they hurt the feet!

Racy is good; "aging Madame" is not a look anyone should go for (particularly the teens and twenties!). And little kids in black lace leggings and minis? There has to be a limit somewhere. Let the kids be kids; sheesh.

The clothes they make now either make you look like a hooker or a 90 year old woman. They even make little girls clothes look like hooker clothes. Parents that dress their kids like sluts need to remember they are attracting sick-o's to their kids and that makes the parents responsible for what happens to them.

As for prices. They are outrageous!!!! Good luck.

If everyone would stop buying new clothes and go to thrift stores, goodwill, salvation army and flea markets, maybe companies would get the message. When I was a teenager, friends would trade clothes with each other. Now-a-days, people have more dollars than sense!!

Yes, I agree with you. I'm more of a classic gal. Just stick with the classic cut jeans, and the classic turtle necks, jackets, boots, etc.

I also despise the hoochie-mama styles out today. And it's even worse if your shopping for little girls. I've tried to find clothes for my 10 year old daughter and everything they have out there is "bundle-yer-kid-up-and-take-them-to-the-nearest-red-light-district" trash.

Good Luck!

Go to Penney's and get some gauchos and a fancy shirt and wear with a pair of tall boots. How sweet is that? And not too expensive. Suede look jacket to top it off.

Yeah i think what makes it worse is that everyone wears the same fashion cos of what the high st portrays and its hard to be more original these days.

I think the trends of the moment are horrible. They are ugly, girls look like fools. I prefer plain and simple clothing or things I know no one else has. Nothing is cheap anymore and everything 'has to be' designer. Grrrr.

I will agree that the fashion highstreets are domained with striped tops and hundreds upon hundreds of prints, all based on a heavy black background.

It is a bit frustrating, but it's cool because if you have the internet you can find some new trends out there. Usually online boutiques are the way to go.
