I found this recruiter, he sent me off to an interview with his client, and the client liked me. I'll start working in 2 weeks.

The problem is the pay is miserable and I'd be working much less than 40 hours/ week.

Can I, now that I have a foot in the door, ask the recruiter for more money?

Do I risk losing this job offer? I don't want to sound too manipulative.

I haven't accepted anything. I don't recall signing any paper saying that I accepted the job. I just heard from the recruiter that the client liked me and asked me if I was still interested and I said yes. They still haven't run a background check on me so I am not sure I have a job yet.

As for the hours, they did not tell me this information until I met with the client.

You havem't committed so it is up to you to ask. Be the informed person and ask him about the hours, the job, the asalary range and let him know that you are seeking a certain minimum to work. Do not state you will only accept if the salary is x. Simply state you have an expectation to to earn a certain amount and you want to know what the salary range is. Make him answer you first. Make him provide a range and let him know you are open to the position but you need to know the concrete details prioer to committing. this puts the ball in his court and allows you the opportunity to remain open and interested

You will probably have to take his offer or not take the job. You have to wait until you have been there for 6 months or a year to ask that question. The military pays what they think you are worth and nothing more. If you are trainee like any other job you have to settle for the starting pay.

It might be better if you wait a couple of months and get a second job. If the money and hours weren't good enough, you should have raised this issue in the interview process.
