There are many species of bees and some are naturally gentle. Male bees do not sting. We think that bee stings are the result of them sensing our pheromones produced by our fear. Many bee handlers can handle them without protective clothing but a normal person would be stung (bee keepers-apiculturists..do get stung too). Many of the species of larger bees are rather gentle but remember too that there are many look-alike insects around the world...i.e. hummingbird moths resemble both a small hummingbird but look much like a bumble-bee.

As a generalization, native-american (I mean the continent) bee species don't have sting, so they don't sting... In the meantime, grab the kids inside and make them let those poor animals alone.
If those bugs look bigger than common bees, they may be bumble bees rather than non-stinging bees (they're usually smaller and darker than European o African bees), and I don't know about their stinging capabilities.

Bumble bees...the big fat ones are the only kind of bee that doesnt sting. Sweat bees dont necessarily sting, it feels more like a bite.

I know that ALL bees DO sting! With one note that after using their sting, they die. Towards to the wasps who no matter how many times they stinged, they keep on living.
