Every time I eat Cajun food outside of New Orleans, I tend to regret it.

As a result, I can't tell you if it's authentic, but you might want to check out the Delta Grill. It's the only Cajun/Creole place I've heard of in NYC that also has live music:

gosh, i don;t know much personally, but try this:

www.northseajazz.com

it's a website of a world-famous annual jazz festival in the netherlands, and it has a database of the best jazz artists from all over the world. pore over their category of New Orleans jazz and do a keyword search for "new york city" or "NYC".

then when you see something you think you like, search out that band on www.myspace.com because there's a good chance that they may have a few songs up to listen for free. they should also have a show schedule so you can see when and where they would be performing in NYC.

good luck!
