John Bunyan's your man! He wrote The Pilgrim's Progress (from this world to a better, I think the sub-title was). He was a hard hitting fire and brimstone preacher back in the 17th century. He was a non-conformist - disagreed with the established church - and in 1660 his controversial sermons landed him in jail for 12 years. P'raps a bit over the top.....

But while he was in prison he wrote 'Pilgrim's Progress' as well as other books, so his time wasn't wasted! Hope this helps.

That would be John Bunyan, English preacher and writer of The Pilgrim's Progress.
