Nope, as I don't really put much stock into any organized religion or their respective mythologies, I can't say that I believe that there is a fallen angel who rebelled against the creator and was thrown out of heaven for it.

I think that crimes are committed by people. People cannot claim that they are not responsible for their actions and say 'the devil made me do it'. If the courts actually functioned on this principle we would be unable to punish anyone: muderers, rapists, child pornographers, etc., when 'this master of evil' is behind it all. No offense intended, but it is foolish to think otherwise.

As for demonic possessions and the like, the human mind is a extremely powerful and creative force, and as such, there is a whole lot that can go wrong with it. Be they biochemical, physical abnormalities, or psychological, these problems can make people think, act, and do some very strange things - including loss of control of speech and mental faculties.

I think that medical and psychological explanations are far more likely than than other worldly influence. Why would Satan bother to inhabit some girl when he could tamper with someone with power, like a president, or a military leader? It doesn't seem to make much sense for the devil to possess someone when the only thing that has seemed to come of it was it being made into a movie. Is he not getting enough publicity?

By the way, what can this possibly have to do with teaching?

I don't know if Satan really exists but I think its possible that it could be just a symbol for the darkness in mans hearts. The problem I have with Satan is that many people blame Satan for wrongdoings and neglect to see the real problem. We are the real problem. Humanities dark side, if we continue to blame a being that may not even exist, how can we ever remedy the problem? I think many people use it as an excuse to not look deep inside of themselves and realize they need to admit their own problems. And as far as Emily rose is concerned. Until I find out otherwise, its just a movie.

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.

The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.

Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.

Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.

Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

No, but I do believe in good and evil and some people are evil - I don't really believe in the whole demon/possession thing.

Yes, I certainly do believe in the devil (Satan). Those who don't believe are putty in his hands. Those who do believe and also know Jesus as their Savior have the power the command him out of their presence in Jesus' name and he must go.
