"Patches" go on the back of your vest or sash, if you are a Daisy, Brownie, or Junior. For D/B/J if you earn a "petal/try-it/badge" you put that on the front. "Interest Project Patches", earned by Cadette and Seniors go on the front of your vest or sash. Now if you are talking about how they adhere to the fabric, I usually use "silver thread" (staple) to hold it in place while I run a basting stitch on the sewing machine around the parameter of the "badge/patch/petal/try-it". I try to match the thread as closely as possible. Where exactly the "object" goes on the vest or sash, you can go to http://www.girlscouts.org/program/gs_central/insignia/where_to_place/ and choose the level you need.

Hope this helps

Whatever works for you. A lot of the patches/badges are now made with an "iron on" back so you no longer need to sew. If you daughter is old enough, I would teach her how to sew it on herself, afterall, she did earn the patch and teaching independence, self-confidence and responsiblity is a major part of GSing.

Wow, I was too lazy to sew them on, I used Aileens Very Tacky Washable Fabric glue from JoAnnes or Michaels Craft Sotres. Just make certain to apply it all the way to the edges and it will hold up in the washer and dryer.

I used to iron mine on
you can buy iron on webbing, it looks like fabric softener sheets. Just cut to the size of your patch, and put a hot iron on it for 30 seconds.
