I am 16 weeks preg. and was having slight cramping after sex yesterday. Today, when i used the washroom, i felt something weird and wiped away a glob of snot-like mucus. Not really a big one, but it seemed abnormal compared to usual discharge. Can you tell me what a mucus plug is like, and if this sounds similar, and if i should contact my doc yet or not? (owe money for missed appt, don't have any money till husband's next check wednesday, so don't want to contact doc till necessary)

working on my second pregnancy now, i can tell you that starting around 16weeks I start getting this snotty discharge and it will carry through out the pregnancy. You don't have to worry about it being your mucus plug, unless there is some bloody show with it. Do try to keep in mind that even if you loose bits of your plug it will regenerate itself. There really isnt any need for concern or to have to go fork over more cash to your doctor.
If the discharge changes colors or starts to smell than you want to go in because that could be signs of infection, otherwise, take it as nothing more than some discharge being caused by the increase blood flow to your "girly parts."
You may also find you have more runny noses, or snot or even nose bleeds, more flem, and saliva... all the fluid increase is due to the pregnancy. you're fine :)
Have a Happy Healthy Nine months :)

I had the same problem, and I called the doctor - they didn't even want to see me, and I had spotting too! The doc told me that it's completely normal - when you are pregnant, your cervix is a lot more sensitive and causes cramping (no biggie). It can also cause some minor spotting/bleeding (also no biggie). The mucous plug an also detatch, or parts of it (it does sound like that's what you have), but unless you have other signs of miscarriage, that's not something to worry about - your husband probably "bumped" some of it loose!

Around 16 weeks you normally have discharge and it last through out the rest of the pregnancy.Unless the discharge is also bloody or smelly you dont really need to call the Dr.As for the cramping after sex thats completely normal.I have 2 kids and my 3rd on the way.If this is your 1st pregnancy its understandable if your worried. If you feel like something is wrong you can always call the Dr's office and speak with a OB nurse there very helpful.Heres a site for you to check out.It goes week by week of your pregnancy. http://www.pregnancyweekly.com

Around 17 weeks during pregnancy it is normal to have an increase in vaginal discharge or vaginal secretions, called leukorrhea. This discharge is usually white or yellow and fairly thick. It is not an infection. It is believed to be caused by the increased blood flow to the skin and muscles around the vagina.
Vaginal infections do occur in pregnant women, but there is no need to worry unless it is foul smelling, yellow or green, and causes itching and irritation around and in the vagina. If you have any of these symptoms call your doctor, if not don't worry and let him know at your next apt, just to be safe.

It is not uncommon to have a lot of discharge during pregnancy to the point where you need a liner. I just asked a friend about it that has had 3 babies and that is what she told me. As long as it is old looking blood it is usually not anything to worry about.

You don't lose your mucus plug till you are ready to go into labour...it would have a bloody show. Sounds like its just semen coming out of your body from sex the night before

No its not a mucus plug. If this happened after sex its from either him or you hun. That's normal. Cramping after sex is normal to. As long as its not associated with bleeding there is no real need to contact a Dr.

Nothing to worry about. Most women experience an increase of discharge during pregnancy.. It is your bodies way of protecting your very precious insides from bacteria right now. As long as the discharge is not accompanied by an odor, itching, or burning it is fine..

The link below might calm you down a bit. Mucus is common druring pregnancy and so is cramping. If you have blood then I suggest seeing your doctor. Hell, if you're still nervous then see his anyway!
