I'm sure it will be a great system, but I wouldn't buy it.

Microsoft has a year headstart in development and releases, and a growing share of big name developers jumping the Sony ship.

The PS3 will have the Blu-Ray player, but reviews haven't been exactly glowing for the format recently. What they are trying to do is sell thier own form of DVD, which, at this point, is rather unnecessary.

Gaming with the Blu-Ray player won't make much of a difference either. Right now, Oblivion, one of the largest games ever made takes up less than one DVD, and it took over two years to develop. It is going to be a while before developers are able to take advantage of the Blu-Rays 50GB capacity, and the HD-DVD (the other version of new DVDs) will be just fine.

It'll be a grate system if you can get past the $500-600 price tag, the major selling point of it right now is the blu-laser technology, a very limited technology because sony owns it and controls the pricing, which the current players cost around $1000, but because of the system being half that price one might assume that those systems will come down in price so they can sell against the PS3, which has the added feture of being a game system. Sony has also said that their games will average between $59 and $99, their reasoning is basicly because they can charge that much, but the graphics released by Sony have been comprable to those that a high end computer does, the problem is these are pictures selected to sell the system and until it goes live no one will know what the average graphics of their games will be, some/many may be what you would expect from the PS2 or XBox (like what happend when the 360 came out last year).

To add Sony's problems Nintendo has annouced their Wii release date is 2 days after the PS3, and at a price tag of around $250-300, half the price of the PS3, many people looking to buy a new system might be more willing to go with last year's 360 (about the same price as the base system of the PS3) or the Wii.

Hard to say at the moment. Right now they've cut 75% of their initial shipments to the US, and they've delayed the launch in the UK until sometime between March and September 2007. Their problem is the Blu-ray technology which the PS3 is going to use to produce their games. Blu-ray has failed significantly in the battle between HD DVD and themselves. Their players cost twice the amount of HD DVD players, and they're using an old compression technology for their HD footage (MPEG2; about 10 years old). Also, the data is easier to lose because of its location on the disc. Without a stable Blu-ray service, PlayStation 3 is going to disappoint most of the world's anticipation.

I f ypu r going to get it I suggest you get the one that is $100 more. It has more features than the cheaper one and the extra money is worth it! I am gonna get one as soon as I have some extra cash. The only problem with it is that the games are gonna be really expensive because of all the graphics and extra stuff the software companies have to do because of the new technolgies in PS3. But I do think its worth it even if you only have a couple games.
