I have a problem with my throat. When I eat or drink, the muscles in my throat contract, making me feel like I'm choking. This happens with everything I eat or drink, usually twice or three times a meal. Sometimes it's so bad, I have to go to the bathroom to throw up the very last bite I took (never more then that). I can't tell if it's getting caught in my throat because I can breathe and liquids shouldn't get caught, right? Does anyone know what this might be from?

I have seen several doctors on this, and haven't gotten an answer that helps me stop it.

this isn't new. I've had it at least since the middle of High School. It's gotten worse over the years.

Taxlady, If I recall right, I did. They were the ones that stuck the little camera down my throat.

My friend had a similar condition, I think it is some kind of allergic reaction. If I remember correctly they did a number of tests on her but couldn't really figure out what she was allergic to. But it would come and go, so she would have it for a few weeks, and then it would disappear for a while, and then come back again. Anyway talk to your doctor asap (s)he will figure it out. This is probably not very helpful, but just to say I have heard of similar conditions before. Or check out netdoctor.com.

Sometimes this can be cause by a phobia about eating - sometimes from eating in front of other people. My friend gets that feeling when she eats in public.

However you don't say whether this is a new thing or something you have always had. You should go to a doctor to check. It might be nothing more than a throat infection.

My aunt had this same problem a few years ago and found out it was her thyroids! Her family Doctor had sent her to a specialist and it was there that it was determined that her thyroid needed to come out! She did wait too long to be diagnosed with this thyroid problem and now suffers with Graves disease! this disease causes her to have mini-strokes and messes with her eye sight! Not saying this is your problem but in case this is the cause, you need to make an appointment with your family doctor and let him diagnose you accordingly! Hope All Goes Well!

You've been to several doctors but have you actually been to an Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat doctor?

It is time to go to your physician, there is a problem, likely stenosis of the esophagus (a narrowing of the esophagus) and this can sometimes be corrected as an out patient but sometimes requires surgery.

Do you drink alcohol or smoke, A family member had died that way because she drank and smoke and her airways just caused her to suffocate and die. You need to see a doctor ASAP!
