SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE... I've got renal colic caused by probable kidney stones. They've done an ultrasound and it shows that my kidney is not draining properly, but now they want to do another ultrasound and this flexible cystoscopy. I've read up on it, so I know what the procedure involves, I just want to know people's actual experiences. Many thanks in advance to all who reply.

Hi, sorry to sound ungrateful but I do want people who have actually had this procedure done, not just read up on Google about it, because I'm quite capable and have already done that myself!

And sorry burnttoast97 it's not done under a general anaesthetic, it's done with a local anaesthetic gel, and thanks for the mention of tumours and renal disease! Great, thanks for that!

As I said I know what the procedure involves, I just wanted to know what it actually feels like to have a flexible cystoscopy carried out.

Not personally but a friend had it done a few years back and she said she kept her eyes closed and apart from the doctor's hands on her she was not really aware of anything. She thought she had a twinge or two but practised deep breathing exercises and was OK.
Good luck

I had a colonoscopy which is very similar as i had diverticular disease,i must admit that i met it with much anticipation but the actual procedure went without any problems,i was given a sedative prior to it starting as was talked through it by the doctor who was most reasurring, their was only slight discomfort and it didnt hurt at all, dont worry im sure youll be fine.

this could be the answer to your problems. It's the only way to get a direct visual answer to your discomfort and make absolutely sure it's a stone and not, god forbid, a tumor or some type of renal disease. Besides, you go through general anesthesia for the whole procedure and then pain management post operative.
