1. Check on the preferences of private language schools in the country that you would most like to work in. Most schools ask that you be certified. Some require a certain amount of teaching experience. Some prefer to teach you their own method.

2. Find out which certification is most widely accepted in that country; typically for North/South America and Asia, it's the TEFL Certificate, whereas most European and North African countries prefer CELTA. You can take often certification courses in the country that you want to work in, or you might be able to find them in your hometown.

3. Once you are certified, it's up to you to decide if you want to apply to a school before moving, or if you want to go and apply in person. Applying in person is often the best way to get noticed. Make sure you are aware of the immigration rules of the country, and that you are well-informed as to the procedure once you get a job. (Sometimes you have to go back to your homecountry before you can start working).

Good luck - It can be a really rewarding job, and obviously a great way to get to know another culture.

go to the country of your choice, and apply in person for a job at a language school. this is the usual best way, but i would like to suggest the one my wife and i used when we arrived in Mexico 8 years ago. the schools don't pay a livable wage, so my wife and i teach in our home. we teach small groups and have satisfying careers. we earn many times what we would as employees.
