I think someone may be leeching off our wireless DSL router - or maybe something more devious - I am not sure

I wouldn't care if someone was just borrowing bandwidth but since this is a work computer I think it would be best to boot them off the network

how?

First posting is correct. You need to either place a WEP password on the router. That will keep them off the network since they will not have the password. Or you need to set up the table on the router so that only the listed PCs are able to get access to your network.

As the specific clicks to do this vary with make amd model of router, consult the documentation (or web site) of the router for the deatails.

Oh-- and you should be concerned if someone is "leeching" off your network connection. Such that person use your connection to download copyrights songs and movie, deal in child pornography, sent harassing e-mails, spam, etc., they police would only be able to track the signal as far as your PC. You would be unable to proof that someone else "did it". You could find yourself face a law suit or even criminals charges for their activity. I have spend enough years in computer IT support to have seen this too many times.

Turning on WEP will probably solve your problem although I think you could probably get by with just stopping your router from broadcasting the SSID and turning on mac filtering. Either way will be enough to keep the average person from leeching your internet connection. Once you get everything set up on your router, just power cycle it. That will kick your leecher off (along with everybody else) and he/she won't be able to reconnect after the router comes back up.

Another simple alternative would be to restrict the Ap to only the MAC addresses you control. This won't completely prevent a real professional (MAC's can be spoofed) but is a quick fix for a few computers.

You can't... the only way to prevent them is to Encrypt your network (WPA or WEP) ... or, in your router settings, allow only certain computers with their given MAC Address.
