Many kids and even teens are addicted to video games. This is a serious problem and can affect the child's physical, emotional and social health. He/ she does not play sports (usually), may not have friends and does bad in school. If anyone has any advice or comments please leave them. I may do a project on this topic.

It's called un-supervised youth, or it's called neglective parents.

Many parents do not take charge of the direction their kids are going in. The just 'go-with-the-flow' and who knows where that's gonna end up.

Kids are plugged in and tuned out. And the parents just let it happen. You really can't blame kids for wanting entertainment and 'fun' things. It's obvously the parent's role to guide and enforcement. "Idle hands are the devil's workshop". These kids should always be busy.

Did I say too much??

I am a parent, and I think gaming is fine. In fact, it can be a rewarding experience whan the whole family plays together. The most important thing is that you are involved in what your children do. If they play a sport, support them. If they play games, participate with them. THAT is how you can ensure that a child is okay emotionally and psychologically. The real problem is that parents in America let the Playstation or television raise their kids. Also, it's foolish to think gaming is a serious addiction when compared to anything else. People get addicted to coffee, tobacco, chocolate, alcohol, fast food...you name it. Moderation is how people keep from getting addicted to things. All addictions are bad to an extent, but to blame a child's psychological, emotional, physical, or social issues on videogames is just plain silly. I would say something is wrong with the child's environment and not the games.

For starters don't completely stop playing. Instead, at the begining of each session promise yourself how long you will play and set an alarm to remind yourself 10 minutes before you need to stop so you can select a good save spot.

Understand that the game will be there tommorrow as well, and that anything excess will make you appreciate that thing less. like eating too much or sleeping too much.

Finally once you set the end time (I suggest anywhere between 1 -1.5hours) get up and walk out.

You may do a study on this topic? I have looked at your questions and all of them are the same questions. It looks like your study is well underway. I have already answered your question, i just think it is weird that you would post the same exact question 13 times. Good luck with whatever you are doing, maybe next time you can do a study on something a little more hard hitting like drug or alcohol abuse. I think that if you put out a questionnaire you might get more focused results, like how many hours a day do you play games and how do they make you feel. But hey what do i know anyways.

I think parents need to take a more proactive position in their child's lives. Some kids have been pretty much "raised" from a TV. Parents buy their kids the Playstation 2 or Xbox that they want and the parent's job is done.

I am addicted. When you find out, please tell me. Although my friends and family have tried everything, I don't want to stop. I love playing video games. Nothing can stop me because I have a job, support myself and I decide what to do in my free time and I choose to play 99% of the time.

Sounds like someone is stereotyping gamers. I consider myself a gamer and it's true I don't play sports (I just don't want to), I do have plenty of friends and I did great in school.
