Because many of them are in that situation because of a lack of personal responsibility. And many people resent having to support them with taxes taken from thier hard earned pay.

Because the single mom's on welfare on my street yell obscenities up the street with children in tow, date creeps, are mean to their kids, and act like low-lifes.
Does that mean I feel negative toward all mom's on welfare? No. I know many successful mom's that got their kids in school, went on with successful jobs and made a good life for their family.
What I hate is the welfare creep down the street. She has 5 kids so far by 3 different fathers, is not nice to her kids or her neighbors, and has no intention of doing anything different.
That's what happens. I had food stamps and stae health when my boy was a baby. Now I am a nurse and he is an A student with a big heart and a boy I am proud of. When I was getting help I was embarrassed. Now I am proud.
Hope that explains it a little.

Maybe because they only see the ones that are abusing the system. I have a negative attitude toward the ones who abuse the system, only because there are families who need assistance and it hurts them when the system is abused.
There are both single mothers and fathers who have to rely on the medical insurance that is provided by the state. Health insurance is so high not even working parents can afford it. A single parent, whether it is a mother or father has to depend on the welfare, health insurance, and the food stamps in order to be sure their children are taken care of. In our state the minimum wage is so low the single parent has to have welfare in order to make ends meet. Plus, married couples with children who are in a minimum wage job, also needs help with providing for their family by getting food stamps and health insurance.

Unfortunately it's a misconception that all single mothers on welfare are lazy. And, unfortunatley you see these single mothers on welfare having more kids with different fathers. I've seen it personally with some of my own family members.
You see this more than you see the single mother who is trying to make it out there and trying to get off welfare.

Because people automatically think that single mothers on welfare are abusing the system. This is because there are many women who do that. There are also just as many women who legitimately need the help.
There is also a stigma attached to a woman who has children; isn't married; isn't educated and whose children have more than one father. People can get very moralistic when they are sitting on the outside looking in, and yet, many of these hypocrites have so many skeletons in their closets and live in glass houses it's not even funny.

It's a sore spot. One that ignorant people can't cope with. It's their problem, not the single mother that needs a little help to get her life together again.
It's the single mothers that abuse the system that make it hard for others... In my opinion there are few... but still....

Because they never hear about the single moms on welfare who are clawing their way through school to get a better job and get off of it after their child's father left them high and dry like me. They only hear about the one's that sit on their uh-huh's and collect and do nothing. That is why there is a limit on how much money you can get and for how long now!!!

part of it is social. or cultrually based. their seen as using resources that could help others. while some people are just plain As*holes sorry some times the truth hurts.
saddly I know some people on welfare and they act like society (OWE"S ) then every thing, when the truth is you get what you earn in life. if your not willing to work then you should not just get hand out's.
Your best defence is actually kindness.

because the misconception is people on welfare are lazy. some people just need the help until they can stand on their own two feet alone. it is true, some people on welfare take advantage of the system, and give others who really need it a bad name. some people need to walk a mile in other peoples shoes before passing judgement!
