what is this "flap" under the front end of my car? what is it there for?

hello. got another question. does anyone know what the "guard" thingy is under the front of the car near the grill is on the grand am's? in know they are on other brands of cars but i dont know what its there for. looks like some sort flap or something. sometimes if i go too fast when entering the driveway i scrap it. so now ive learned to slow down. what does it protect?

That particular part is a front end spoiler. In theory it is there to increase the aerodynamics of the car and increase performance. I reality, however, this increased performance is only achieved at speeds well in excess of maximum highway speed limits. I'd compare it to painting a racing stripe on a car so it can go 10mph faster. It ain't gonna happen. You could remove the "thingy" but you'd ruin the look of your grand-am.

Both of the first two answers are correct. However, the third answer is also correct. You probably purchased the "male" car and that flap is indeed the foreskin. Take it back to your Pontiac dealer to get the foreskin removed.
