Elevate your feet above your heart. To prevent swelling, limit your fluid intake when you know you will be sitting for a long time. If you have the option to get up and move around once in a while, do so.

This is called orthostatic edema and results from lack of adequate circulation. Draining fluids from your legs requires movement for the veins to properly work and the only way to do so is by movement. To make matters better, I suggest wearing loose fitting socks and even shoes to prevent constriction of the veins. Do not take any 'water-removing drugs' unless they are prescribed by your physician. However, a walk in the morning and at lunch time and one after work with help also. When you return home after work, elevate your feet...on a stool will do and simply by gravity, the fluids will be returned to the body, and eliminated by the kidneys. If you are overweight, you should begin to slim down, fat contributes to the problem. You need not control your fluid intake as long as your urinary output is good, but if there is not a good urine output, you should consult your physician as edema can be caused by both heart and kidney problems.

well suzie there are some good answers above, in order for the water retention in your legs, to improve , you can try to add asparagus to your diet, making circles with your ankle. and aerobic exercises will generally do it. also if you drink water it will get you to get up to use the rest room and that helps as well

JUST LIE ON YOUR BED WITH YOUR LEGS UP IN THE AIR AND WITH YOUR HANDS ON YOUR HIPS SUPPORT YOUR WEIGHT AND PRETEND YOU'RE RIDING A BIKE. BIG LONG PEDALING ACTION, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN?? DO THAT FOR A FEW MINUTES TO GET THE CICULATION GOING AGAIN. SURE WORKS FOR ME!!
