Getting used to it happens more slowly when you wade in because less of your body is exposed to the water, and more quickly when you dive in because your entire body is instantly exposed to it.
I used to wade in, but got pushed in on one occasion, and learned that diving in is really the best approach. It's over in a split second. Wading in really drags on the chill.

It depends on my mood really and how damn cold that water is.
If its really cold im not going anywhere near it.
If its just cold ill do the slow inch by inch freeze my boobs off.
If its nice ill dive right in.

I've learned to just get in, it's so much better to shock the system than waste time with the ankles, okay knees, oh butt. If you're wearing a bikini, that step between butt and boobs is a the worst shock.

I find it's easier to just dive right in. Slipping in slow only prolongs what you know is about to happen.

You gotta jump in, as inching in to the water is just torture... us manly men type blokes get to tackle-height and have to call an ambulance if you get in to slowly.
