dont think it was the batteries as they werent the last pics i took (just the last i printed) and had charged the battery before i went out the later pics i took that day have printed fine, thanks for the advice though

have messed around with the printer cartridge and realigned them, printed out a test sheet and have tried the photos again, there is a slight improvement, so that maybe the answer, it was a brand new cartridge this morning but its already saying the ink is low, perhaps ill try getting another one (and next time paying someone else to print the pictures! :) )

When a printer driver program assumes ink levels are still low after you've replaced the cartridges, it usually means the program's ink level settings require re-setting.
Another common cause of having only half a picture printed is when you're printing a vertical (portrait-orientated) picture with your printer set to print in landscape format, or vice versa.

is there enough ink left in the printer? if not, replace the cartridges.
Also, you may need to tell the printer to re-calibrate which should be able to be done in the printer's options, or by pressing the recalibrate button on the printer itself

Sounds like maybe there was a problem with the camera. Maybe the batteries were low? That can happen if there is a problem with the shutter, which often happens with very low batteries.

70 may be all one cartridge will do.
