Many thanks for all the answers. How can I choose? Oh dear... I think i'll leave it to you all to decide which is the best answer.

Cheers.

Not at all. I work in a very conservative office and women wear suits every day.

Absolutely not! A good suit can be the basis for a complete working wardrobe. Try the jacket with a different skirt or pair of slacks. Add a different blouse. Use a pull over sweater under the jacket. Different shoes and scarves and jewelry all make for a new look. There are many ways to accessorize and carry a suit through the work week.

I don't think a suit will ever got of date, its just what you team it up with which can be a problem.
Suit are a uniform that is a reconized sign of businessworkers and in my opion will always been.
If I had a office job I would wear suits and then team it up with accersories like different shoes, jewellerys and even fancy top. These can be team up with skirts and/or trouser suits. But on that note I don't think the short suits are ever a good look (you need to be just the right shape for them).
Hope this helps

No, not atall. Suits are worn, although more often by men, by both males and females. However, you will often find that less wemen wear suits in the work-plae now. I'm not sure why, but many companies, particulally travel agents, have ALL of their staff in suits.

It depends on what the job is, generally speaking, the less well-paid and important the job is, the less you will be expected to wear suits, bot male and females. You will notice that even men don't wear suits in the work-place sometime, particulally in the summer when it is to hot to wear ties and suits.

Hope this answers you question, MrRSMan.

Heck no- suits are very sexy items- they're mature and sophisticated. There is nothing better than a basic black suit- you can always add more modern, trendy pieces with it. I would avoid, any old style suits with big shoulder pads. Other than that- you're good- just add your own personal accessories to make the oufit unique.
