I have asked this question before and didn't get a satisfactory answer. It should be called the 'Bad News' not the 'News'. Even when the news is reporting a story about something relatively uneventful, they insist on giving it an omnious tone worthy of a nuclear war.
The 'News' gives a totally skewed view of the world as a place where murder stalks every street on a day to day basis. Ironically, they sometimes do articles about why many people feel fearful of crime! Their own programmes instill a constant fear. By ommisson of good events, they actually render doing something good as not worthy of being reported so it's no wonder that more people don't try to so something unique and extraordinary with their lives.
I doubt that adding that more good events in the news would make a great change in figures but, make no mistake, figures are what it's all about, rarely any genuine concern with what is going on in the world.

I agree with you unfortunately we sometimes have to deal with the producers or editors views or the political view of the newspaper that you may subscribe to.
Of course the Old School Tie Syndrome is also a problem and being politically correct.

Bad news sells newspaper, increases viewing etc.
The Media is extraordinarily biased with little or no means of real recourse.

people would watch much less news if they thought all was going just fine. People watch more when they than a crisis is underway. News shows are paid for by advertising. More viewers = more profits. More crises = more viewers. Therefore more crises = more profits.

I have put a similar question without realising this subject had already been raised. So I found the answers very interesting.

If your a republican you don't want to hear about the republicans torturing people. If your republican you don't want the truth to be told. You don't want to hear about all the stupid things Bush does.
It is not bad news. It is just reality.
If you can't handle the truth watch Faux News.
