Two possible meanings:

1) The store is out of stock on the album you wanted - it's "sold out".

2) The artist has "sold out" in making the album, meaning that he or she has compromised artistic merits and principals that he or she exhibited previously, for the primary purpose of achieving commercial success.

Instead of following the bands own musical background they have produced an album aimed at mainstream fans simply because that will make more money
