I have a pretty good digital camera and I know how to use Photoshop to edit the pictures and all that stuff.. my question is what is a good setup to take the photos? Like what color background should I use when taking the pictures and any other tips or hints... thanks.

Depending on what you sell, you want a background that does not take away from what you are selling. I use a white sheet for most of the items I sell and then use a lamp for a good direct light that isn't too bright. The direct light is important to show as much detail of your product as possible. Be especially careful if your product has flaws, scratches, etc, that don't show in your photo. You need to be careful to make sure your listing is very specific and includes any details that may or may not be in your pictures. The key to eBay success, in my opinion, is good customer service. This is easily achieved, complete and honest descriptions of your product, ship quickly and accurately, and maintain good communication with your customers. Follow these steps and you will do well. Good Luck

Nobody on E-bay wants to buy something, open the package, and realize it wasn't as you described because you photoshopped the picture. That would be grounds for them to leave you negative feedback and possibly get a refund from Paypal, depending on the extent of your picture editing.

The best background depends on what you are selling. You obviously wouldn't put a dark item on a dark background or light item on a light background. For most things, it's best to just use a sheet, a piece of paper, or a table that is colored in a way to make your item stand out. There is no cover all answer for this question.

The background doesn't matter as long as the picture is clear. Don't alter the pictures!!!! You must represent the item correctly and honestly or you're going to run into problems with your buyers. They can file an Item Not As Described report if the item isn't what you represented including the picture.

I usually use a white background. I use 2 big pieces of poser paper one against a wall and one on the bottom.

It really depends what kind of stuff you are selling. If its jewlery, I usually use a black velvet piece of cloth and kind of scrunch it up which gives it a very nice and elegent feel. Of course you wouldnt use this background on lets say.... Tools, it wouldnt make sense.

Make sure your lighting is good, I have learned this will make the biggest difference and you do less editing this way.

Good Luck fellow seller.

Depending on what you are selling the backdrop is very important, usually a plain nonconflicting color, never post a pic like on your cluttered, kitchen table, garage etc. As close as you can get it without blurrying the photo, taking a good pic of a name brand, size etc is also good.
more than one photo appears to do better too, the first is free.

I just put my stuff in a chair or on the floor and flood it with light on two sides and snap away. when i have only one item i just put it under a table lamp and use the flash.... dont try and make your item look better than it already does by using photoshop this can really come back to haunt you in the feedback department...

A neutral background would be good, that way the colors would stand out. I just use my carpet with is beige and use my cell or digital camera.

Black background for light items -- use a setting/background appropriate to the item.
