I'm originally from n. california, and have lived in massachusetts + connecticut in addition to living in katy briefly and found a place of solitude in pasadena. I enjoy it there more than katy b.c. the houses seem all alike--a bit too cookie-cutter for me and it's a bit yuppy...anyway, besides the main ? I had, I'm wondering if others who made the move encounter quite a bit of condescencion from the californians who don't even want to visit tx. if the plane tix and lodging were provided for free. I'm loving tx and the kinder ppl. here...just wondering.

Being a worldly traveler, you have to make the most of where you are as there are pros and cons no matter where you make the transition. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence if you water it......accept things as they are, look for the good, put effort into it, etc.

You get more for your money here, people are friendlier and more down to earth. You don't have many places to or or things to do within a hours drive, but airfare is cheap. I take a lot of trips & Houston is great as it is centrally located. I had a hard time adjusting here after moving here from beautiful Hawaii and the great money I made in Alaska, and Calif. where you have a large variety of things to see, go & do within an hour or 2 drive.

Supposedly, the main downside of here, is the weather. I love going out in the afternoon in the summer with shorts on and come home at 2 a.m. and not have to put a coat on to walk the dog. Last time in Calif. I drove out in my convertible....ended up with several jackets from friends as well as long pants. Every night I had to put the top up and turn on the heater.....UGH.
Besides, humidity is great for the skin....that is why they say the girls from the south are more prettier...its their complexion. In Southern Cal I saw a lot of dried up looking tanned young girls.

I love Cal., but too many plastic people there. They say there is a lot of fruits & nuts in Calif., but most of the people there are transplants. They do have a lot better tasting fruits & veggies there.

I moved from Los Angeles to Houston a couple of years ago. While I cannot say that I am "happy" with my decision, I can say it was the most logical decision I've ever made. I was able to buy a beautiful house here in a beautiful neighborhood for the same amount of money I would have spent on a 1 bedroom apt. in the ghetto in California. The people are super friendly and unlike LA, people aren't really interested in how much money you have in your bank account or what kind of car you drive. It's also a nice quiet place to raise a family. It's a growing town and if you invest now, you will be very happy you did in the future. I hope you start to like it better. I know the weather sucks and there isn't much to look at, but it definitely has it's pros. Good luck!

I live in San Francisco, and I lived in Houston a couple of years too. The people are friendly in Houston. One isn't lonely very long if he moves there. I hate the weather however. It is so nice in San Francisco without extreme temperatures any time. I've seen it at least 90 degrees in Houston ten months of the year, and the humidity is awful. I recall opening the door at 6:00, and it is like opening a blast furnace door. It never cools much. I have perpetual rashes. Then there is two months of 20 degree weather and stiff winds on the flat land.

I am originally from Houston and lived in OC for six years, then moved back. People were so cliquish there. It was hard to make new friends. I love it here. The people are friendly, the housing cheap, and air conditioning and a pool make up for the humid weather. Now if I could find an easy remedy for the mosquitoes...

I moved from San Diego to Texas 8 years ago, and won't ever go back!

The people are so much friendlier here! There's also more value for your dollar, and so much diversity! I live in a border city that's so much cleaner than San Diego.

I'm also a little prejudiced because I've got horses, and the Texas lifestyle is just more suited to that kind activity.

If the weather doesn't bother you then enjoy yourself. I only lived in the hard parts of houston. If I had good people around maybe my stay would have been longer

Life is good here in Texas. All the people I knew in cali were only interested in how much money everyone else has. A bunch a fake people.

Don't worry about what the veggies think, enjoy yourself and your surroundings wherever that may be! Have lived all over the US and it is not so much where you live as who you are that will bring you contentment in life.
