We brought my sister's wedding dress on the plane. We were scared to ship it so we brought it as a carry on.

i, personally, would carry it on the plane. if you MUST check it, put it in a carboard box or a suitcase, in a plastic bag with plenty of bubble wrap around it. That is how my gown was shipped by the company.
