in india, some decades ago, such women were considerd with stigma, with no fault of theirs. even divorce was not easier then. if they happen to like some body, society would criticise them as wayward, !
i would like to know from both indian answerers, as well as from other parts of the world, what is the status of such women in their countries, and how do such women, whose lives have become miserable, due to loneliness, no kids, desire for male company, finding some purpose for living life, craving love, are tackled ?
what is the pattern of an indian society, in the past, and now ? will the society take kindly with them ?
how about in other countries ? any similar problems ?

To an American woman...outside the pain and hurt, maybe feelings of failure...there is little else. Most of the time in America a woman picks up the pieces and moves on. Usually with the help and support of her family.
It is hard for me as an American to understand a cultural influence strong enough to cause a family to ostracize one of their own because of decisions made outside herself.

If you want a new man then get one. Who gives a hoot what your friends or family will say. The other women in your situation who would judge would just be jealous of you anyway.

I'm familiar with some Indian cultures and I know if a woman was was married and regardless of what happened; death, divorce, she is not expected to ever find anyone else because the men always have the option of marrying someone else with no children.

If you can't find what you need from your own culture then don't be afraid to look elsewhere. If you are searching for a good man who will love you, you need not to limit him to being Indian. Expand your horizons.

This typically isn't a problem in America, though is does exist. Women as a whole aren't treated any differently if her husband were to leave. Women are raised to be more independent and self-reliant. They have the freedom to come and go as they please. The men who leave them are viewed badly as they have abandoned their commitment to marriage and possibly children. I would imagine it would be much harder as women are not as socially powerful in India as they are in America.

I think that the system is ridiculous. Why should the innocent party suffer because some guy can't control what's in his pants?
Regardless, I would divorce the sorry bastard because he would'nt be man enough for me anyway. I

So much for Hindus being compassionate! Christian women who have been abandoned are able to start over. What's wrong with that?

here in the US, if a husband is not interested in his wife.. they get a divorce and he finds someone new to screw. Its accepted, as half of all married couples will end in divorce.
