It really is such a shame that some folk will not even try to make the effort to spell correctly. Does it annoy you and what do you think can be done about it?
I am not talking about the occasional spelling mistake. But those that are obviously done intentionally to annoy folk like me.

Picnic thanks, I am big enough to acknowledge my mistakes. And you can be as pedantic as you wish if you feel the need. Perhaps more of us should pedantic when it comes to other folks spelling. correctly.

I agree. I hate bad spelling and grammar. However, everyone makes mistakes as you did when you typed 'amount' of people instead of 'number' of people, so no-one is perfect.

oi! My spelling sucks and somtimes I just cant be bothered to capitilize everything and use punctuation, so I cant really point fingers, but seeing as yours is such a posh post, I guess you would want to check out this, because I think you are missing the word BE in there somewhere, and I'm sure you can figure it out~~ typed by THE SECRETARY
quoted from your post "Perhaps more of us should ... pedantic when it comes to other folks spelling. "

I am sorry but your question demands a pedantic reply. Some people would find the way you began a sentence with a clause ('But') to be incorrect but, if it's good enough for national newspaper articles, I am sure it is good enough for most people.
It's not just spelling that I find annoying, it's the sloppiness of many people's logic but that is a common problem that affects every level of society, even academics.

It annoys me too!! I don't think that anything can be done about it though. There is a link that says "check spelling" if people don't want to use it than there is nothing that anybody can do. I guess the one's who do it intentionally just want to look uneducated. Such a pity.

Yes it is a shame and a poor reflection on today's society.
I would suggest that all computer keyboards should be connected to the mains electricity supply and deliver a near-fatal shock upon detection of a spelling error.

That annoys me and the people that are lazy and cut there words, it doesn't take that much longer to type out the whole word some of the questions I have no idea what they are asking. Also you people that do this should think about the fact that this is going all over the world not just america and they are really having trouble understanding you

I agree!
I make occasional spelling mistakes but that's it!
75% I use correct spelling and punctuation,25% I don't!
I totally agree with you so I'm totally behind you!

I agree. Not only do the deliberate spelling errors make me crazy but the lack of punctuation and caps, too...the only way to combat it, I think, is to continue to honor the written word by doing it correctly.

I know what you mean. Textspeak. Ebonics. And just plain laziness. Some of these fools are so dumb, they probably can't read the words: "Check Spelling". I have asked questions on this very topic before, and believe we are witnessing the bastardisation of our culture by the retarded. This is what happens when we let poor people reproduce unhindered.

I dont think refuse is the right word. If they cannot spell, they cannot spell. Everyone is entitled to make mistakes, we are not all perfect! (including you)
