I try not to take this personally but last night's premiere turned me off: I do not like the role of surogate being played by a Chinese woman. Why would the writer of this show picture this role as she is now?? Almost everyone of us who moved here in the last few years are highly educated professionals. I hate the show for the fact that it ditches us Chinese women...I wish I could reach the writer of the show and express my opinion...I am not happy that as an actress she took such a role...I am so disappointed. Will not watch this show anymore. Do you understand how I feel? Don't get me wrong...I don't mind anyone else watching it but it just totally turned me off...:(

I understand how you feel, because as a woman, my intelligence was insulted by this stupid show the first time I saw it, and I have never watched it again. It's a shallow, cutesy show about fake, self-centered people living meaningless lives, and I don't think most intelligent, well-educated people take it seriously.

But I understand your discomfort with the perceived slight to the Chinese, and I am sorry that anything on TV insults or hurts the feelings of ANY group of people. That's a shame.

I find the entire premise of the show insulting to women of *every* ethnic background and walk of life, so I never watch it.

But my husband does. He says it's for the "story" -- yeah, right. heh heh....

You can contact ABC here:

to complain. Go for it; I don't blame you. Good luck; I hope they listen.

I've never written them to complain because I figured they knew the show would be insulting to at least some women's intelligence, and that my complaining as an intelligent woman who lives a real life probably wouldn't bother them a bit -- they'd just tell me to go watch PBS or something.

But maybe if they hear from someone of an ethnic background specifically insulted by the show, they will consider your complaint and address it. I hope they do.

Good luck!

Do you think any of the women on this show are portrayed in a good way? I don't think the writers have given women a good name whether they are Caucasian, Hispanic, African American or Chinese. You have the dumb one that gets in trouble all the time, the alcoholic perfectionist, the money grabbing adulteress, the mother that hides her son the murderer (even though it's the wrong one) and the surrogate adulterer. This is a TV show not reality, the more sensational the better to the watching public. If you choose not to watch it then that's fine. I watch it (sometimes) because it's entertainment, I don't model my life after anyone on the show.

I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND!!! i'm a black female so imagine how i felt when alfre woodard (an established award winning actress) played the mother of the first black family on wisteria lane just to be cast off last season, not even mentioned this season, and to be the one with 2 handsome young black actors both portraying murderers, psychotic and retarded, raping and/or taking advantage of white women, all while terrorizing the entire neighborhood until all that's left is a greiving black mother leaving the town with even more shame and humility....now top that with the chinese maid, mistress, and surrogate. what's next for DH??? middle eastern people (which may be too political right now) and you know the solis family wont let their race be made a fool of IF they can help it.

You are stereo typing your own race by saying that most of you are highly educated professionals. That is not always true. I am white and I wouldn't stop watching a show if they cast a white girl as a crack addicted hooker. It has nothing to do with race, it's just a tv show. I guess I could be offended by some of the actions of the white characters on this show, but it's dumb to take this stuff seriously. It's purely for entertainment. This character started out as Gabby's maid, who was a virgin. I did not agree with Gabby being selfish enough to talk her virgin maid into being a surrogate, but it has nothing to do with the maid's race. But, she is no longer a virgin now anyways after having an affair with Gabby's husband. I suppose chinese woman never have affairs with married men either, huh?

Um, this story line started last season it was not new last night. I'm sorry that you're offended by it but they do make bad characters in all sorts of shapes and colors. As long as you are a good person in your own self, why would it bother you to see someone similar to you portrayed badly. I mean I am a white 40 something female and I can find all sorts of bad people like that on tv and in real life. It is supposed to be entertainment, I think it's kind of cool that they are showing a hispanic couple thinking of adopting/raising an asian (at least partially) baby - sounds pretty melting pot to me!

I do understand where you are coming from but just remember it's just TV. There are worst characters out there I think they could have chosen. Usually I try not to look at it in a serious matter because it is after all just for entertainment. If you do want to contact the people of ABC then I hope that your opinion is heard loud and clear! Good luck! Peace out!

Oh come on, lighten up. Would you have felt better if she were Caucasian, African-American, or any other race. Or are you just offended when it happens to be your own race. Women of all races have been surrogates throughout history. What greater gift could you give someone that cannot have children of their own.

Hey,fungirl!
Get over it it is a TV show! touchy touchy! I guess if they had shown a Hispanic "maid" you would have been fine with it. Nice double standard.
