A preying mantis is not poisonous. It preys on what we would term bad insects such as flies and aphids.

The female is one bad gal. She eats the male after copulating. By eating I mean she consumes him as in having him for lunch where he is the main course.

But preying mantises are not poisonous to humans.

Praying mantids are one of the few insects that can turn their heads. Some texts refer to the European mantis (Mantis religiosa) as the most common praying mantis in European countries. Ischnomantis gigas is the largest mantis with 17 cm length in the female and is found in the Sahel zone of Africa. The smallest mantis is Bolbe pygmaea, which is only 1cm long when fully grown. In the United States, species were first introduced from Europe and China around 1900 as garden predators in an effort to control pest populations. The Carolina mantis is the official state insect of South Carolina, and the European mantis is the official state insect of Connecticut.

No they are not poisoners.

Praying Mantis is not poisonous

An amazing number of people also keep the mantid as a pet. They can be quite fun to watch and are quite active, especially when they are young. They can be kept together, but require lots of space and food and will eat each other if they are properly fed. It is best to seperate them as they get older. Praying mantis will not bite, but they will pinch if handled. The praying mantis will also fly as an adult.

I recently watched a praying mantis catch a hummingbird and attempt to eat it. The hummer seemed paralyzed, we put it in a little cage, after about 10-15 minutes it began flying again and we let it go. I have a neighbor who actually had photos of a mantic eating a hummingbird.

mantids are actually not venomous, but they are aggressive and carnivorous. Of course they feed on what is their size and are absolutely harmless to humans. They subdue their prey by means of their powerful mandibles (jaws & teeth if you like). A human need not fear them, only other insects unlucky enough to encounter them

They're not poisonous, but they can pinch really hard. I used to play with them when I was a kid and they would get me from time to time.

Your going to have night sweats and nightmares. You will hallucinate. Your gonna need a anti-venom. It is true Chinese philosophy if your bit by a praying mantis you become one in your dreams.
