You have to set the desktop up for file and print sharing, and then you can share that printer. However you will also have to set up the printer drivers on your laptop so that it will print properly from that location. When setting up the printer it will ask if the printer is a networked printer or local, you must pick the networked one. Other than that you should eb able to print a test page to make sure that it is working, and be all set. If the printer is an HP with networking capabilities, you will need to set up HPwebjetadmin and leave the desktop computer on for whenever you want to print. Actually in both cases that computer will need to be running as well. Hope this helps.

As i understand it you have a wireless ADSL router to which the wireless PC connect to get to the Internet. If so the router will assign dynamic IP addresses via DHCP. If a printer was to go onto the LAN you would need to assign a static IP address which would have to excluded from the DHCP service on the router. Share the printer from the PC. by right clicking on the printer on the PC and enable sharing. Then just browse to the PC through my network places find the PC name with the printer, double click on the PC icon and the printer will be there. Double click on the printer and the printer will then be available from the remote machine. As long as the PC is turned on of course. To create a network printer requires a print server and client software. Available from most PC\shops.

On the laptop, go to Control Panel/Printers and Faxes, and click Add Printer. Choose the second option (a networked computer) then browse for the computer. Enter \\desktop_computer_name\printer_name in the search box. The desktop computer will need to be ON when you do this and anytime you want to print. Good luck!

You'll need the printer wired in to the network rather than the PC. Windows XP should be able to handle that.

You need to setup a local network. In order to use your printer from your laptop then, you must still have your primary computer turned on, since it will act as a host to the printer services
