You should wait and not just because you're 17. With any kind of decision like that you should imagine exactly what you want then wait at least a few months. If you feel just as strongly that it's a good idea after some time has passed, then go ahead. But if the idea seems less appealing at all, just let it pass. If the idea has lost its appeal a little in just a few months, you can imagine how you'll feel in 10 years if the feeling continues to decline.

Wait...until you are 104 years old. If you must have a tattoo get the kind that washes off. Don't ever do anything to your body that you cannot undo easily. A tatto is a permanent reminder of a temporary feeling. If you get one now, you may regret it in 10 years. If you never get one, you will never regret it.

Hmmm, if you are already thinking that you might regret it in 10 years, wait a few years. This isn't the sort of thing that should be treated as an impulse decision. It's very expensive and rather painful to get tattoos removed.
If you're thinking about getting a tattoo because your it's a trendy thing to do, then DON'T. Tattoos, in my opinion, should be treated like permanent body art. Don't make an investment in something that you're not going to like in 10 years. The ones I have will always be meaningful to me.

WAIT
On the news today I heard (PBS) about an outfit that has
developed easily removeable tatto ink dyes. With that new
technology it will be possible to remove a tatto that you no longer desire using a laser quite easily, instead of the most painful laser process they have to use today which is similar to burning/baking it off. The technology will be on the market in 12 months or so they said.
Were you to ask which I prefer, I would tell you I like the wash off kind a whole lot. Your mind changes over time in the things that you like/dislike, approve/disapprove of. It may become a turn-off for your 2nd wife.

No wait! Listen, I have lived for over five decades, there are some things, almost everything that changes as we get experience and wisdom. Hadley anything of my 17 year old self is left in my 54 year old self. Just take this as an older human telling you how things are.

take everything into consideration:
do you plan on gaining or losing weight anytime soon? you dont want the area to stretch either way, because it may distort your tattoo.
are you getting it in an area where it will be plainly visible? if it's visible, this will seriously limit your career opportunities. trust me, nobody wants a doctor or lawyer with tattoos up the side of their neck.
are you going to be embarassed of it later? one day, you really WILL be a 50 year old woman. will it be a regret?
the only one who can decide if it's right is you.

if it is a design you have been set on for at least 3 years and it means something to you then go for it, but if its just something youve thought about overnight then you should wait. the best idea is to get one somewhere you can see it and can easily hide it that way u can flaunt it when you want but you can also forget about it if you begin to dislike it. becareful also because there is lots of risks getting a tattoo and to get them removed is a long, expensive, painful process. if you do decide to go ahead, good luck.

Well I don't think you should get one now...You should think long and hard about something you can not go back and change...What if you would gain a tremedously amount of weight and then the tattoo scretch or if you loose a lot of weight the tattoo is going to be saggy and wrinkled...think before you put those type of actions into work...
