It depends what spec computer you are wanting cheap. If it is gaming you' want to do, then it is probably best to buy all the parts seperatly. ebuyer.com is a cheap place for parts I have found. However, if you are looking for something which will do the basic tasks such as browse web, watch videos, use office applications, then you may want to think about trying to buy one from a company which is upgrading computers. Ebay would be a good place, I purchased a laptop from there for £300 and it isn't too bad. Nothing I haven't been able to work with anyway.
People have suggested large retail shops and Dell, these places do offer high prices for the spec of machine. I found a site called golden electronics which seems to have good prices.

Why don't you buy an Assembled Computer? Assembled means that the various components of the computer will be purchased separately and then joined together to get the real structure, A Desktop Computer. They are very very cheap. There are many Computer peripherals shops all over. You can go and just tell them the configuration and the softwares you want and they will give it to you in no time.

eBay, newspaper classifieds, and thrift stores.

they will mostly likely suck, but whatevs. if you want a computer bad enough you'd get one.

i bought a decent computer at walmart for $300. that considered cheap. sure it has a crt moniter but it's my child. regardless of how ugly it looks.

You get what you pay for, no more.

Take a chance on Ebay but you will most likely get screwed.
