are fully functional humans? should the permenantly perplexed be allowed to wander the streets, are they really safe alone out there? does it annoy you that they miss the fact your question is not serious, or do you get some perverse sense of glee out them totaly missing the point?

I regard a sense of humour as a sure sign of a certain level of intelligence and awareness of the world around them.

It doesn't annoy me when someone doesn't get the joke - I just make a mental note that perhaps they are a bit thick and that I shouldn't tax their mental capacity too much (like getting them to write their name)

There seems to be a definite lack of humour amongst the aggrieved at the lack of humour brigade. Why do so many people get annoyed with others. People miss my humour all the time in my questions and answers - I really like the serious responses (nice to learn something new) to silly or trivial questions. Can be slightly piquing when a rather clever bit of wordplay is obviously completely misunderstood be the questioner - but, whatever. The whole idea of having a sense of humour is to see the funny side of things. Perhaps you, and certainly others, now think I'm a tosser for being so serious with this question, but I've had the same accusation for being too silly and frivolous. In truth I just go with the flow as befits my want - anything from the childishly silly to the deadly serious. I'm permanently perplexed because I get grief from grumpy conformists but also people claiming to be individuals and possessing a sense of humour. When I pose questions, I like anything but rudeness and obnoxiousness. Granted Yahoo Answers as an organisation do tend to be a bit stuffy, and this vibe does permeate through it, but is it worth getting bothered over?
For these reasons I'm pretty much anti-people, they are too rude and serious when there is no need to be and should be hung from lampposts.

Many argue humor is a sign of intelligence. You are obviously a smart man. I have been told I am funny, though I can't say that many go--"wow is she smart."

And yet, somethings I find funny some "well educated" people don't and visa versa. Maybe I am actually more intelligent then they are, or maybe I have a different kind of smart or just a different point of view.

I have this really well educated cousin (he went to great schools--parents had money) and I can't get him to crack a smile my wit. In fact I don't think he even listens when I speak. When he laughs (it's usually at his own jokes) I fail to see the humor because it's usually mean spririted or supporting his conservative viewpoint of the world--a view point that he is better then all the worker bees and deserves his wealth. I often tune him out.

What I don't get is how can you have that wealth and opportunity and then make fun of those who don't? How is that funny?

So my question to you is what kind of humorist are you? Are you gleeful that somebody didn't get it because that makes you better than they are? Or are you annoyed they didn't hear your humor and you are not being heard as you want to be?

Well, I better go back to my padded cell. I might hurt someone.

A sense of humor is essential in this world. I don't think that it's a sign of intelligence, although I do think that different levels of humor are wasted on some folks. Maybe it's just the way some brains work vs. the way others do.

I have been married for 26.5 years to the same woman and it annoys me to no end that she still doesn't know if I'm being serious or not. But, on the other hand, I give some leeway to people who don't know me that well. Of course, there are other people like my son, who know when I think I'm funny, but don't share my views on humor. Go figure.

I answered a question with humor and got a violation.

A sense of humor is one of the most important things anyone can have. If you can't laugh then what good is your life. I don't care if they run the streets as long as I don't run into them.

I read questions on here every day and most people answer the humorous ones seriously so I have to go in and add my two cents of humor. At least then the person asking the question knows that someone out here gets it.

One responded by saying they should be "killed to death." Is there another way to be killed? lol

While I think people without a sense of humor miss out on quite a lot, I don't think they are necessarily less intelligent. Some people simply take the world and themselves very seriously. A person is better off with a more well-rounded personality.

And to respond to yet another response....Americans are no more stupid, nor intelligent than any other industrialized and technological country, and it shows extreme narrow-mindedness to say differently.

Enjoy!

A sense of humor is trait I look for most in a friend. Those without it are simply a waste of time !

I find glee when someone misses my sarcastic antics of humor. I know I am better off to find humor in life than dwell on the horrible things that have crossed my path.

As someone who has had their questions taken seriously on here when they were clearly meant in joke I find it quite odd that people just don't have a sense of humour enough to get simple jokes. Even if they thought something was crap at least they could say that they got the joke. I wonder what does actually amuse some people.

I have been accused of not having a sense of humor several times. It is not true though. I am not a person to laugh loudly. and also there are some jokes that I know hurt the feelings of people in the group. I do appreciate jokes and know a lot of them myself. Some jokes often are told when they should not be told.

Swings and roundabouts....you ask a serious question, get a joke as an answer...

Ask a joke question, get some serious smart *rse looking down on you for, well, making a joke...

Tsk tsk...

I really dont care, no one ever gets my jokes and theyre bloody hilarious if a bit over complicated and convolouted ;0)

Nice alliteration in your question by the way.
