i have a 91 ford escort. I've checked the fuse box, and can't tell if any of them are blown. how can you tell? Also, none of the fuse's are marked "horn", so how will I know which one it could be?

For starters, you have to be able to see if a fuse is good unless you want replace them all. You can see a filament inside the fuse that is broken or not broken. You could replace all, but there is a chance that your horn is burnt out or the wiring has deteriorated....I mean....it is a Ford after all. Seriously, the horn can be bad. The fuse for the horn will be mixed in with other accessories on one fuse. You could get a manual for your car online (maybe) to see which fuse to pull and replace.

the fuse is usually tied to a different circuit, I know my old Mazda, the horn and the brake lights were tied together. If the horn didn't work that would tell you that the brake lights didn't work.

I would check the parking lights and the brake lights if those fuses are all right, then you have a problem in the horn circuit somewhere. Being a 15 year old car, I bet some connections are corroded. In which case you wold have to check for power at the horn power harness and work back from there.

Bypass the fuse and temporarily hook the horn up to the battery directly to make sure the horn functions before you pull your hair out.

Get a fuse puller...comes with some fuse kites...and pull the fusses out one at a time and look at the wire inside the blade or glass fuses. If the wire is broken it is bad. Check the rating and replace it. If it blows again....you gotta problem.

Good luck!

Wiring? Diaphram? Fuses? Disconnection?

Horns go bad too. Might need a replacement. Most cars have two: a high and a low.

there is a number of things that could be wrong, you need to check the correct fuse, look through the manual for your car, you can also check the wire going to the horn, if your horn wire and fuse are both good then its possible that it is the clock switch in your steering coulomb

Wow, there's a bunch of answers. The easy way would be to remove each fuse one at a time and check the fuses either by looking at them or testing them with a volt meter using the continuity or resistance function. You ought to be able to see whether they are good. Good luck.

try this ..open the fuse box check every fuse in the box to see if at least one of them is blown.. to check a fuse first remove it from the slot put it up against a light, lamp or the sun helps too and check if the small wire in the fuse is split if it is than you know its blown..try it and eventually youll find the problem.
