I've just switched my computer on and the sound isn't working even though it was fine y'day. I've tried re-starting it and i've plugged in skype head phones to see if it was just the speakers but nothing is working. I've also ran a virus check and it hasn't found any viruses. Can anyone help?

sound option in the control menu shows that the volume is loud, it's not telling me there's any problems. My partner got the computer off some relative ages ago, haven't got a clue about the sound card. My partner is in Switzerland so can't find out either, can I?

thanks every1, I've managed to fix it! Only one wire from the speakers was connected to the comp, the other one that was connected was from the skype head set and because it's the same colour as the other speaker lead (and they're all tangled!) I didn't realise. Doh!

Are the speakers actually plugged into the computer? Sometimes the cable gets tugged out.

Also, make sure they're not accidently muted or turned right down by accident.

dbl clk on the speaker icon near the clock. The window that comes up should not have the mute box checked.

If you have msn messenger, do the sound test. If it doesn't work there is a box to clk on that says 'repair'. That fixed my problem at one time.
